Life of the Beloved by Henri J.M. Nouwen was the perfect book for me! Especially being a “non-reader”. It wasn’t filled with complicated terms as the book was originally meant to be a book for non-believers (that ended up being a great encouragement for many believers across Canada! And maybe the world?). Henri wrote this book with honesty and filled it with many of his real life experiences, breaking it down into four important words: taken, blessed, broken, and given. Henri practically outlines what it means to be God’s Beloved and how to live as His Beloved. He also honestly writes about what it means to be blessed and our purpose on earth. It is a fast read that I would recommend! The version I have also includes a helpful reflection guide for the text to help you apply it to your life as well as a prologue and epilogue to give the heart behind this book some context.
